Community Ponds Grant Scheme

Through The Big Sponge public campaign, the PCP has funded community projects to construct ponds on public land, to foster enthusiasm. As well as helping to demonstrate the idea of constructing ponds to reduce flood risk, the schemes will provide attractive amenity areas for local people and attract wildlife.

Communities are also encouraged to install water-butts (rain-barrels) to collect runoff from the roofs of any public buildings, to promote the idea to local people. The more rainwater that is stored where it lands, the less will reach the floodplain and cause a flood problem.
